우리 아이 초등 3학년 때 처음 챕터북을 접하면서 읽은 Magic Tree house 시리즈.
그때는 이런 갱지책을 읽을 수 있을까 싶었고
읽어 내려가는 아이를 보면서 신기하다는 생각까지 했었다.
가끔은 정말 이해하는 것이 맞나라는 의심 또한 품었었고
확인을 하자니 흐름이 끊길 것 같아서 그냥 두었던 시간들.
지나 보니 이해하고 즐거웠기에 아이는 읽을 수 있었던 것이었다.
단어를 확인하지 않고 읽게 놔두었던 시간들이 잘한 일이었다.
아이는 단어를 몰라도 모르는 문장을 접해도 앞뒤 맥락으로 이해하면서 스킵하기도 하면서 지나갔고 읽어 내려갔다.
세상에서 아이 머릿속에 처음으로 원서로 읽는 세상의 문이 열린 시기가 아닐까 싶다.
얇은 리더스북에선 느낄 수 없었던
그 넓은 세계와 모험을 머릿속에서 떠나면서 아이몸은 책상에 있었지만 머릿속으로 정말 넓은 곳으로 여행을 떠난 시간이 아니었나 싶다.
그런 시간들이 모여서 아이는 커나갔고 책으로 더 넓은 세상을 맞이할 수 있게 된 것이 아닌가 싶다.
그럼 매직 트리하우스의 시리즈로 우리도 한번 떠나볼까요^^
총 40권의 구성으로 되어있고 이 시리즈가 끝나면 Merlin시리즈도 기다리고 있다. ^^
이 책에서는 두 아이가 나무집을 타고 다니면서 시간과 공간을 초월해서 여행과 모험을 찾아다니는 내용이다. 어찌 안 빠질 수가 있을 것인가. 게다가 역사내용이 많아서 역사적 상식 또한 책을 읽었을 뿐인데 엄청나게 알게 된다.  너무 좋은 시리즈이다.
