이책의 주인공인 코끼리 Elmer.  다른 코끼리들은 회색이지만 본인만 알록달록한 색으로 남들과 다르다는것을 고민하는 Elmer. 남들과 다름을 알고 고민하면서 지내다가 친구들과 다른 이들과 좌충우돌 지내면서 자신을 알아가고 사랑하게 되는과정.
우리들도 처음부터 자신을 사랑한다는것이 얼마나 어려운일인지 살면서 느끼고 깨닫고 바꿔나가는 삶이 참 고귀하다고 느낀다. 그래서 아이들이 이런 그림책을 읽고 남들과 다르다는것이 어떤 느낌인지 간접적으로 경험하면서 느끼고 생각하며 그런 다름을 인지하고 받아들이기까지를 보면서 한단계 성숙해가면서 자신을 사랑하게 되는. 그런것을 보는것이 너무 도움이되고 좋은것같다.

이 책 시리즈 여자아이들의 히어로물. 그러나 우리집 남자아이들도 꼭 읽고 지나간 히어로물. 너무 재밌어했다. ^^ 예쁜 공주가 히어로 영웅으로 변신하는 그런 내용. 뻔한듯하지만 아이들세계에선 너무 흥미로운 이야기. 영웅으로 변신한 공주가 어려움에 처한 친구들을 구하는 이야기. 그림또한 아이들이 너무 좋아할 사랑스러운 그림체.

이 시리즈 정말 많은 사랑을 받는 책. 아이들이 너무 좋아한책입니다. 작가는 그 유명한 생쥐기사 데스페로의 작가!!! 이 책도 너무 재밌게 아이들이 읽었는데요. ^^ 왓슨부부와 함께 지내는 머시 라는 돼지이야기입니다.머시는 대화는 하지않지만 특유의 시치미 뚝 떼고 있는 상황과 모습과 제스춰가 참 다르게 느껴집니다. 현실적이면서도 판타지같은 이야기. 너무 멋진 책. 좋은 책입니다. ^^ 이책은 정말 안좋아하는 아이들을 본적이 없을정도입니다. ^^
